Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to youth empowerment through sports, particularly football, as a strategic tool for development and social order.
The Governor made this pledge while receiving the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who led a delegation on a condolence visit following the passing of the Governor’s mother, Hajiya Safara’u Umaru Barebari.
Governor Radda emphasized that sports development, especially football, remains a key part of his administration’s agenda. “Developing sports is crucial to engaging our youths, which is why we established the football academy,” he stated.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress made, he added, “I am delighted that our academy is yielding positive results, with many of our youths securing trials in foreign clubs and participating in international tournaments.”
The Governor underscored the long-term benefits of the initiative, stressing, “This is a lasting investment. Over time, we will see the emergence of stars who will proudly represent Nigeria in global competitions, including the World Cup.”
While appreciating the NFF delegation for their visit, Governor Radda also expressed hope for the success of the U-20 team currently in camp in Katsina. “We are committed to supporting the team to ensure they excel at the international level,” he affirmed.
In response, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau lauded Governor Radda’s commitment to sports development, particularly the establishment of the football academy. He described the Governor’s initiative as a “game-changer” for Katsina State football, stating that the participation of Katsina players in global tournaments is a significant milestone.
Gusau pledged continued support from the NFF, acknowledging the Governor’s efforts in nurturing young talents and fostering a vibrant football culture in the state. He also extended his condolences over the Governor’s loss, praying for Allah to grant his late mother Jannatul Firdausi.
Governor Radda’s unwavering commitment to youth development through football highlights the power of sports as a unifying force and a pathway for economic and social empowerment in Katsina State.
