The Gidan Waya community in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State has released photographs of 12 residents abducted by bandits during an attack last week.

The incident reportedly left four people dead and several others injured, deepening concerns over escalating insecurity in the region.
Among those abducted are six women, a minor, three young men, and an ECWA Church Reverend. The victims remain in captivity, and the community has appealed for their urgent, safe and unconditional release.

Amnesty International has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as yet another example of the Nigerian government’s failure to protect citizens or bring perpetrators of human rights abuses to justice.
The organisation noted that the attack took place on the night of 11 November 2025, highlighting the continued vulnerability of rural communities in northern Nigeria.

According to Amnesty International’s records, many communities across parts of the north have faced repeated assaults since 2016, forcing residents to flee their homes. The group also warned of the rising trend of abductions and violence in states such as Plateau, Zamfara, southern Kaduna, Benue, and Katsina, some of the worst-affected areas in recent years.
The Gidan Waya community continues to call on authorities to intensify rescue efforts and prioritise the safety of rural populations who remain at constant risk.
