The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore wanted for allegedly attempting to incite public unrest following the demolition of houses in Oworonshoki.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh said Sowore ignored several warnings not to mobilize demonstrations against the state government’s urban renewal exercise in the area.

Despite the caution, members of Sowore’s Take It Back (TIB) Movement reportedly held a peaceful protest in Oworonshoki. Security operatives later dispersed the protesters with tear gas.

Commissioner Jimoh accused the activist of planning to block traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge, describing the move as “a serious security threat.”

“He has put plans in motion to obstruct movement on the bridge, which is a serious offence. We will not allow that to happen. We are closing in on him, and wherever he is, we will get him,” the police chief stated.

He further alleged that Sowore arrived in Lagos from Abuja but avoided appearing at the protest venue, claiming the police have video evidence of his movements.

A heavy police presence was observed around major parts of the city, including the Third Mainland Bridge, as authorities worked to prevent any renewed demonstrations or disruption.
