An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has rejected the outcome of the party’s House of Representatives primary for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, insisting he won the contest.

Onyeije Onuoha-Kalu told journalists in Umuahia that he secured victory in 15 of the 22 wards during Saturday’s primary, despite the party’s election committee declaring another candidate as winner.

The Abia State National Assembly Primary Election Committee, led by Erasmus Cishak, had announced Ikenna Nicholas as the winner of the exercise. But Kalu disputed the result, saying he won eight of 11 wards in Arochukwu and seven of 11 in Ohafia.

“We have 22 wards… and out of that, I won 15,” he said. “Our party is law-abiding, and we practice the rule of law. There is no need for the party not to uphold the rule of law.”

Kalu said the process was still ongoing and expressed confidence that the final declaration would reflect what he described as the “true outcome” of the vote. He also urged party members to support governorship aspirant Henry Ikoh, praising his record and leadership qualities.

Meanwhile, the party’s appeal process has begun in the state. According to publicity secretary Uche Aguoru, a committee chaired by Chris Dajan is receiving petitions from aggrieved aspirants, promising “fair and objective consideration” in line with party rules.
