The Labour Party (LP) has appointed Senator Usman Nenadi as its Interim National Chairman, alongside Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary, in a significant move to reorganize the party’s leadership structure.
The appointments were made on Friday during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where members unanimously endorsed the formation of a new interim working committee. The committee is tasked with managing the party’s affairs until a full National Convention is held and a new NEC is elected.
In addition to the leadership changes, the NEC approved a schedule for a comprehensive series of congresses at various levels. These include ward, local government area (LGA), state, and zonal congresses, culminating in the party’s highly anticipated national convention.
To ensure transparency and inclusivity, the party’s national secretariat has been directed to release detailed guidelines and timelines for the electoral processes at all levels.
The restructuring is seen as a critical step in strengthening the Labour Party’s internal democracy and positioning it ahead of future elections.
