Media personality Toke Makinwa has revealed that she has never been in a relationship where a man asked her for money, describing such a request as a deal breaker.
Speaking on a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, which featured reality TV star Mercy Eke, Makinwa reflected on conversations about women financially supporting their partners. She said she often wonders why she has never encountered that situation.
“When I hear women say these things, I sit down and ask myself, ‘Why don’t men ask me for money?’ Men don’t ask me for money,” she said.
The television host jokingly suggested that the way she presents herself or openly discusses her own challenges may discourage men from seeking financial assistance from her.
“Maybe there is something on my head. Maybe because before you ask me, I’m already giving you all my problems. As soon as you say, ‘How are you?’ I’m already saying, ‘Today I have a headache.’ Maybe that’s why,” she joked.
Makinwa added that even men she had dated who were not financially comfortable never requested money from her. According to her, some of them still made efforts to spend on her despite their limited income.
Expressing gratitude for the experience, she said she had never dated a man who confidently asked her for financial support, stressing that such a request would mark the end of the relationship.
“I’m thankful for that grace because I’ve never, ever dated a guy who confidently asked me for money. The day you do, you’ll never hear from me again,” she said.
