Tinubu Mourns Victims of Afriland Towers Fire in Lagos, Condoles With FIRS, UBA, United Capital

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire outbreak at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which claimed the lives of staff from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), United Capital Plc, and United Bank of Africa (UBA).

In a statement issued Wednesday, the President extended condolences to the bereaved families, management, and staff of the affected organizations, describing the incident as a “painful loss to the nation.”

“I commiserate with the families of the victims, the FIRS, United Capital, UBA, and Afriland Properties Limited. My prayers are with those who lost loved ones in the inferno, as well as the injured who are receiving medical attention,” Tinubu said.

The President also praised the swift action of first responders, including the Federal Fire Service, medical teams, and members of the public who assisted in evacuation efforts.

“The courage and responsibility shown by emergency responders and ordinary Nigerians at the scene are commendable and reflect our collective humanity,” he noted.

Calling for stronger safety measures, Tinubu urged both public and private institutions to prioritize caution, training, and alertness to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“This sad event reminds us of the importance of vigilance in safeguarding lives. We must strengthen our systems to avert such emergencies,” he advised.

The President prayed for the repose of the departed souls and for the quick recovery of those injured.
