Governor Chukwuma Soludo has signed the Homeland Security Law 2025, officially establishing the Anambra Vigilante Group, known as Agunechemba.
The signing took place during the launch of a special intervention force called *”Operation Udo Ga-Achi,”* which translates to *”Operation Peace Shall Prevail,”* at the International Convention Center in Awka.
Governor Soludo emphasized that security, law, and order remain central to achieving his administration’s vision of a livable and prosperous homeland.
To support this goal, the state procured 200 vehicles for the operations of Agunechemba, which integrates 2,000 personnel drawn from the police, army, navy, civil defense, and DSS.
The force also incorporates advanced technology to enhance its effectiveness.
Calling for collective action from communities, Governor Soludo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating criminality and making Anambra the safest state in Nigeria.
He also extended an olive branch to kidnappers, cultists, drug dealers, and other criminals, urging them to surrender their weapons.
The administration promised rehabilitation and empowerment opportunities for those who choose to embrace a productive path.
Special Adviser on Security, Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi, commended the Governor’s efforts in bolstering security and praised the Anambra State House of Assembly for the swift passage of the Homeland Security Bill.
He expressed confidence that the law, once fully implemented, would transform Anambra into a safe haven for businesses.
During the event, Governor Soludo also inaugurated the Traditional Rulers Council, appointing Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), the traditional ruler of Obosi in Idemili North LGA, as the council’s chairman.
The initiatives represent a significant step toward enhancing security and fostering peace in Anambra State.
