Tragedy in Borno: FRSC Confirms Nine Killed in Borno Express Crash

fatal crash involving a Toyota Hummer bus and a commercial trailer claimed the lives of nine passengers including three children along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.

According to a statement issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Usman Muhammad, the deadly collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. on July 18, 2025. The incident involved a Borno Express bus and a long trailer, with speeding and loss of control identified as the primary causes.

Among the deceased were two male children, one female child, one woman, and five men, all of whom were confirmed dead at the scene or shortly after being rushed to hospital.

“Eight passengers died instantly, while the ninth victim succumbed to injuries at the Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri,” the FRSC commander stated.
An additional seven passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri.

FRSC officials, emergency responders, and medical personnel were on the scene shortly after the crash, working to evacuate the injured and retrieve the remains of the deceased.

Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident, urging motorists—particularly commercial drivers—to strictly observe speed limits and road safety regulations.

“This tragic event is a stark reminder of the consequences of excessive speeding. We call on all drivers to prioritise safety over haste,” the statement added.
Condolences have poured in from across the northeast region, as families mourn the loss of their loved ones. The FRSC has promised to release more information as investigations progress.
