The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to hold a mock accreditation exercise in Anambra State to test the upgraded Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for November.
In a statement released on Saturday, Victoria Eta-Messi, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, said the exercise will take place on Saturday, October 25, across selected polling units in Anambra’s three senatorial districts.
According to the commission, the exercise is designed to evaluate BVAS response time and test the efficiency of result uploads to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
“The mock accreditation exercise will allow INEC to test the upgraded Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), assess its response time, and test the uploading of results on the INEC Result Viewing Portal ahead of the main election,” the statement read.
The selected polling units are located in Awka South, Idemili North, Oyi, Anambra East, Aguata, and Orumba North Local Government Areas.
INEC urged eligible voters in the designated areas to participate in the exercise, noting that their involvement is vital to fine-tune both the operational and technological aspects of the commission’s electoral process.
PVC Collection to Begin October 22
In a related development, INEC also announced that the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for newly registered voters in Anambra will commence on Wednesday, October 22, and continue through Sunday, October 26.
Voters who registered during the most recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise are advised to collect their PVCs from the exact registration centers where they initially enrolled.
INEC emphasized that PVC collection is strictly personal, warning that collection by proxy will not be permitted under any circumstances.
“All registered voters are strongly encouraged to collect their PVCs within the designated timeframe to ensure eligibility to vote in the upcoming Anambra governorship election,” the statement added.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, operational efficiency, and building public confidence as preparations continue for the 2025 Anambra governorship election.
