The Katsina State Government has announced plans to procure 30 hybrid buses as part of a bold initiative to modernise public transportation and promote environmental sustainability across the state.

The buses, which run on both fuel and electricity, are designed to reduce carbon emissions, lower fuel costs, and significantly enhance mobility for residents. The initiative is set to begin this October, with the first phase focusing on Katsina, Daura, and Funtua, and plans for expansion to other parts of the state.

Speaking at the project unveiling, Oshi Bernard, a business partner in the initiative, praised Governor Dikko Umar Radda for his leadership and commitment to sustainable development.

“We want to specially thank Governor Dikko for giving us this great opportunity to promote a world-class project,” Bernard said.
“He is hard-working, industrious, focused and dedicated. This project reflects his passion for improving the lives of ordinary citizens and empowering youth in Katsina State.”

Bernard added that the hybrid transport initiative aligns with the state’s vision to create a safe, affordable, and eco-friendly transport system that serves the growing population’s needs.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Wei Yanbin, Project Manager for Zhong Tong Bus, revealed that the initial 30 city buses will mark the beginning of a broader infrastructure overhaul.

“The project will commence this October and will be delivered within six months,” Yanbin said.

He disclosed that the company will also build three bus terminals and 60 bus stops along major routes to support efficient operations.

Highlighting the environmental benefits, Yanbin explained that the hybrid buses are engineered to convert diesel and electric energy, thereby minimising fuel consumption and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Each bus will have a passenger capacity of 45 to 55 people.
