The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released a travel and safety advisory for prospective corps members of this year Batch A Stream I, urging them to prioritise their safety while travelling to orientation camps nationwide.

In a statement shared on the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters (NDHQ) X (formerly Twitter) handle, the scheme cautioned corps members against travelling at night, citing heightened security and road safety risks.

“Prospective corps members must undertake their journeys only during the daytime,” the NYSC advised, warning that night travel exposes travellers to avoidable dangers.

The agency further encouraged the use of registered transport companies and approved motor parks to minimise exposure to unsafe travel conditions.

“Prospective corps members are encouraged to use registered transport companies and approved motor parks,” the statement said.

To enhance safety, the NYSC urged travellers to share their live location with family members or trusted contacts throughout their journey, noting that this could be crucial in emergency situations.

“Corps members should share their live location with trusted contacts while travelling,” the advisory added.

The scheme also called on travellers to speak up against reckless driving, stressing that remaining silent could put lives at risk.

“Corps members should not hesitate to caution drivers who engage in speeding or dangerous driving,” the NYSC stated.

In addition, the agency advised prospective corps members to keep their mobile phones fully charged and carry power banks to ensure uninterrupted communication during their journey.

The NYSC further emphasised that travellers should be willing to pause their journey and continue the next day if it becomes late.

“No journey is worth risking one’s life,” the advisory warned.

Reaffirming its commitment to the safety of all corps members, the NYSC urged strict compliance with the guidelines as the Batch A Stream I orientation exercise draws closer.
