Governor Yusuf Calls for Continued Collaboration to Eradicate Polio in Kano

Kano State’s commitment to public health has earned commendation from the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Development, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, during his recent visit to the state.

Prof. Pate applauded Kano’s proactive measures in combating infectious diseases, particularly polio, while stressing the urgency of intensified efforts to eliminate the virus. He noted concerns from development partners regarding the virus’s persistence and called for sustained action to protect vulnerable communities.

The minister also praised the enactment of the Kano Disease Control Center Bill, describing it as a crucial step toward bolstering disease prevention and response efforts. He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to working alongside the state government to ensure comprehensive healthcare access for children.

In response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf—represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim—expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and the support of donor organizations. He acknowledged the significant contributions of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Dangote Foundation in strengthening the state’s healthcare system over the past decade.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that despite notable progress, more efforts are needed to achieve the complete eradication of polio. He expressed confidence that with continued collaboration between the federal government and donor agencies, remaining challenges would be effectively addressed.
