The Chief Executive and Program Director of the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI), Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, has emphasized the need for heightened safety awareness and strict adherence to safety protocols at accident scenes.
Speaking during an inspection of the Karu bridge accident site in Abuja, alongside officials from the Nigeria Midstream Downstream Regulatory Authority and the Standards Organization of Nigeria, Mr. Oluwagbemi stressed the importance of better monitoring of articulated trucks. He called for stricter brake safety checks, compliance with maintenance requirements, and a more robust licensing system for commercial drivers that includes safety and evacuation training.
Expressing condolences to the victims and their families, Mr. Oluwagbemi urged patience as authorities investigate the cause of the accident.
“PCNGI reiterates the intrinsic safety of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles and enjoins all stakeholders to support the Nigerian Gas Vehicle Monitoring System (NGVMS) for a safer, well-regulated gas vehicle ecosystem,” he stated.
He further reaffirmed PCNGI’s commitment to promoting alternative, cost-effective, and reliable energy sources, ensuring the continued safety of road users and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.
