Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has vowed to resume legislative duties at the National Assembly in defiance of an ongoing appeal by Senate President Godswill Akpabio challenging a court order that mandated her reinstatement.

Speaking from her hometown of Ihima on Saturday during a constituency empowerment event, Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed she had formally notified the Senate of her decision to resume, referencing the Federal High Court’s judgment that nullified her six-month suspension.

“I have about two months left before the six months expire. I’ve written again to the Senate, informing them that I’ll be resuming on the 22nd, by the special grace of God,” she said.

“The court made a decision, and I intend to honour that. Some argue it’s not an order, but a decision — either way, the judgment is binding.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate on March 6 following allegations she raised against Senate President Akpabio, including claims of sexual harassment — accusations that triggered internal tensions. She challenged the suspension in court, securing a judgment in July from the Federal High Court in Abuja directing the Senate to recall her. The Senate, however, has appealed the ruling.

While under suspension, the lawmaker remained active in her constituency, particularly focusing on representation and community development. However, she expressed frustration over being unable to fulfill her legislative mandate at the federal level.

“Every senator has three major responsibilities: legislation, oversight, and representation. I’ve been representing and pushing for my constituency’s needs to be captured in the federal budget. But I’ve missed the opportunity to table bills and motions,” she said.

Despite the legal back-and-forth, Akpoti-Uduaghan remains resolute, stating her commitment to resume her full legislative duties on the Senate floor as mandated by the judiciary.
