Bandits demand ₦100m ransom for each of 38 worshippers kidnapped in Kwara church

Bandits who abducted 38 worshippers from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have reportedly demanded ₦100 million ransom for each victim.

According to reports, the kidnappers has begun contacting families of the abducted church members, who were taken during a Tuesday evening service.

A community leader and the Olori Eta of Eruku, Chief Olusegun Olukotun, who confirmed the development on Thursday, November 20, said four of his relatives were among those kidnapped.

He explained that he was in the church with five family members when the gunmen invaded, and managed to escape with one of his wards through a window around 6:06 p.m.

Olukotun revealed that the kidnappers have divided the victims into groups based on family ties and are reaching out to their relatives individually.

He said some residents had already received calls demanding ₦100 million per person, though he has not yet been contacted about his own family members.

“From what we gathered, the kidnappers grouped the victims according to their relations and are calling our people through each group. Some have received calls demanding ₦100 million for each person. As for my own relatives, I haven’t been contacted yet, so I’m still waiting,” he said.

The gunmen attacked the church on Tuesday, November 18, killing five persons and abducting 38 others during the service.
