Senate Mulls Six-Month Suspension for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

The Nigerian Senate is considering a six-month suspension for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over alleged violations of Senate rules.

The recommendation, put forward by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct, was presented by its Chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen. If approved, the suspension will take effect from March 6, 2025.

As part of the proposed sanctions, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office will be sealed, and she will be barred from entering the National Assembly premises. Additionally, both her salary and those of her legislative aides will be withheld during the suspension period.

The committee also advised that she should not represent Nigeria in any official capacity while serving the suspension. However, the Kogi Central lawmaker may have an opportunity to seek a review by submitting a written apology to the Senate.

The upper legislative chamber is set to vote on the recommendations, which, if approved, would temporarily strip Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of all legislative privileges.
