…vows to eradicate quackery in Solar Plates manufacturing and installation
The Nigeria Immigration Services in collaboration with the Department of Science,Technology and Innovation along with it’s private sector partners VERYSOL ENERGY NIGERIA LIMITED is engaging in human capital development of staff and personnel of the Nigerian Immigration Services on Solar Energy solutions maintenance and facility management.
During the opening of a three-day training at the FCT Solar Hub Training Facility Karu in Abuja, the Director, FCT Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Kolawole Olubasola emphasized the need to avoid undue dependence on other sources of power.
He explained that the aim of such trainings was to ensure local content in Solar energy solutions and the need to eradicate quacks.
“we assure that we don’t certificate before their time, we ensure that they are adequately trained so that they can defend the certificate. we want to bring sanity into the system of solar plate assembly. a lot of people are complaining and it is because of lack of the trading.”
Dr Olubasola charged the Immigration officers to take advantage of the provided opportunity to better themselves while in the service and afterwards.
The FCT Director of National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB, Dr. Chinwe Ogu appealed to the Federal Government to begin enforcement of NABTEB modular trade certificate especially for solar technology to avoid quackery in the field emphasizing that adequate training must take place before certification.
“National Business and Technical Examinations Board is an examination body that’s been mandated to assess skills vocational qualifications technical and we award certificates, National technical certificate national business certificates and advanced national business and advanced national technical certificates as well as national vocational qualification and we regulates. “Also even for this training we are proposing modular trade certificate examinations for trainees because it’s a short training, they are doing just one module, as the name applies it’s modular. It’s done according to the modules you have done and then you are certified for each module, so for this solar energy training we will be certifying the trainees who are taking this first module.”
The Executive Director, Verysol Energy, Mr. Olubiyi Odeinde said the essence of the training workshop was to strengthen the capacity of the officers in the maintenance and general information on solar energy to produce cleaner environment devoid of carbon emissions.
Mr. Odeinde explained that such training would equip them for maintenance and enable them to fully take charge of operations of various solar installations across NIS control and command as well as operational facilities across the federation.
“the President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the technology and innovation center at the Nigerian immigration service which is like a command and control Center. now immigration has been going around all their facilities Nationwide putting solar. So, we approached them explaining that it will be good for their personnel to be able to operate and maintain this systems and we hope that this would be a catalyst for other organization, public institutions to be able to sort of like push for human capital development in this area.”
“we are sure that over the next three to four five years that solar is going to be the source of electricity for most organizations, for homes and businesses. So we are just taking a step ahead and being ahead of the game to be able to you know to get them an equip them essentially that’s what this is all about.”
Some of the trainees, Assistance Controller of immigration, Mr Chris Ajaye and Mr jibril Boris
described the capacity building as a step in the right direction and promised to extend the training to other staff of the Service.
