NYSC Now Open to HND Graduates: Federal Government Ends Longstanding Exclusion

In a major policy breakthrough, the long-standing exclusion of Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program has been officially resolved. However, the new directive applies exclusively to full-time HND graduates, ensuring their eligibility for mobilization.

The resolution follows a high-level meeting between the Director-General of NYSC and the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa. In an official statement, Dr. Alausa emphasized that the decision reflects the Ministry’s commitment to promoting fairness, inclusivity, and equity within the education system.

To streamline the process, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has been instructed to accelerate the collation of data for eligible graduates. Additionally, a circular has been dispatched to all Rectors of Polytechnics, directing them to upload relevant graduate data onto the newly established HND admission portal.

The statement further highlights that the portal will serve as the official database for NYSC mobilization, ensuring proper documentation and addressing past inconsistencies in admission records. This move is expected to significantly ease the mobilization process for HND graduates and reinforce the value of technical education in Nigeria.
