The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has ushered in a new chapter, officially unveiling Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as co-hosts for its 12th edition, scheduled to hold next month at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites.

The announcement marks the end of a defining era led by veteran host IK Osakioduwa, who has anchored the ceremony since its inception in 2013, becoming widely regarded as the show’s signature voice and face.

Osakioduwa, who previously co-hosted with Vimbai Mutinhiri and later mentored young presenter David Oke during the 11th edition, acknowledged the transition in a heartfelt message shared on social media.

“@officialbovi and @nomzamo_m Congratulations, guys. I know you’ll kill it. I’ll be cheering for you,” he wrote.

His exit signals a carefully planned “passing of the torch,” closing a decade-long hosting reign defined by humour, warmth, and consistency.

For Bovi Ugboma, the opportunity represents both honour and responsibility, given the legacy he inherits.

“The AMVCA stage is one of the biggest in Africa, and I don’t take that lightly,” Bovi said after the unveiling. “I wasn’t expecting it. Considering IK has been the host from the beginning, I was really happy when I got the call. I want to bring the energy, the laughs, and the magic that this night deserves.”

Bovi, a long-time comedy fixture at the awards, now steps into a central role on one of Africa’s most-watched entertainment stages.

Joining him is Nomzamo Mbatha, whose selection reinforces the AMVCA’s growing pan-African identity. The South African star, known for her breakout role in Isibaya and international appearance in Coming 2 America, is currently starring as Queen Nandi in Shaka iLembe.

Mbatha, who also serves as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, described the hosting role as a celebration of African storytelling.

“African storytelling is at an all-time high, and it’s an honour to be the one holding the mic while we celebrate the best of it,” she said.

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is also expanding its reach in 2026 with the introduction of two new categories: Best Indigenous Language (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language (Central Africa), further positioning the awards as a continent-wide celebration of African cinema.

In addition, acclaimed actress Joke Silva has been appointed Head Judge, strengthening the credibility of the selection process.

“African stories from cities like Lagos, Nairobi, Dakar, and Johannesburg reflect the continent’s identity and global connections,” said Atinuke Babatunde, Executive Head of Content and Channels at MultiChoice West Africa.
