Tension has gripped Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State after suspected herders reportedly attacked farming communities, leaving one person injured and 62 houses destroyed in the wake of the violence.
According to local accounts, the clash stemmed from a dispute over access to a water source located between Tor Bali and Atongo villages. The conflict reportedly began when a woman was allegedly assaulted by herders while fetching water from a communal pond.
Chairman of Bali LGA, Aboki Dauda, confirmed the incident, noting that the situation escalated quickly, resulting in widespread destruction of homes and displacement of residents.
“This crisis started from what seemed like a small misunderstanding at a water source. It spiraled into a full-blown attack that affected two communities,” Dauda said.
In response, the Taraba State Government has warned that it will not tolerate any further breach of peace, particularly from communal clashes or farmers-herders conflicts, which have long plagued parts of the state.
Government officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining security and fostering peaceful coexistence among residents. Security operatives have reportedly been deployed to the affected areas to prevent further escalation.
