Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to promoting girl-child education and empowerment across Nigeria.

Hosting a delegation from PLAN International at the Presidential Villa, Shettima emphasized the administration’s dedication to expanding access to quality education, especially for girls.

He cited initiatives like the National School Feeding Programme as part of efforts to improve learning outcomes.

“In President Tinubu, you have a trusted ally for the girl-child. This government is fully committed to gender inclusivity,” Shettima stated.

He also lauded First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s advocacy for girls’ education, calling her a role model for young women nationwide.

In a symbolic act, Shettima invited teenage advocate, Joy Ogah to serve as “One-Day Vice President.”

Addressing the nation from his seat, Ogah called for urgent reforms to improve access to education, especially for girls, who make up 60% of Nigeria’s 10.5 million out-of-school children.

“Every girl deserves a classroom, a choice, and dignity,” Ogah said. She urged the government and partners to enforce girls’ rights, provide free sanitary products in schools, and ensure access to clean water and nutrition.

PLAN International’s representative, Helen Mfonobong Idiong, highlighted the organization’s impact on over 11 million Nigerian children and praised the government’s support for VAT removal on sanitary pads.

She also called for ongoing collaboration to make education inclusive and affordable for all Nigerians.
