The Enugu State Government has officially announced the cancellation of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise originally scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025.
In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the government said the decision was made to allow for the smooth conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
“The cancellation is to ensure that all candidates taking part in the UTME across the state can access their examination centers without any restrictions,” the statement read.
While the sanitation exercise will not hold, the government has encouraged residents to maintain personal and environmental hygiene in their homes and communities. Authorities confirmed there will be no restriction of movement on that day.
In a related development, the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) reaffirmed the government’s decision in a follow-up statement issued on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, emphasizing the importance of keeping the city clean despite the cancellation.
