The Rivers State Police Command has strongly condemned the violent assault on Goodluck Iheanachor, the Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, describing the incident as “heinous” and “reprehensible.”

In a statement issued on Sunday, the command confirmed that the attack took place on June 20, 2025, at approximately 1:40 p.m., when a group of about 30 armed hoodlums stormed the council secretariat in Ahoada-East.

According to the police, the assailants, led by the council’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Mr. Hector Ekakita, and the Chief of Staff (COS) to the administrator, physically assaulted Iheanachor, stole his mobile phones, and forced him to sign a resignation letter under duress. Vital official and personal documents were also carted away from his office during the attack.

The administrator is currently receiving medical care for injuries sustained in the assault and is reported to be in stable condition.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, alongside heads of other security agencies in the state, visited the council secretariat to assess the situation. The police chief has ordered the immediate arrest and interrogation of all those involved, including the CSO, COS, and other identified suspects.

“The Rivers State Police Command unequivocally condemns this reprehensible act and has taken swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.

CP Adepoju also issued a stern warning, stating that any suspect who fails to honour the police invitation would face serious legal consequences. He reassured the public of the command’s commitment to restoring peace and upholding law and order across Rivers State.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and law-abiding as security operatives work to apprehend the culprits and prevent further breakdown of order.
