The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised an alarm over the fraudulent creation of fake social media accounts impersonating its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD.

According to a statement issued on Friday, the fake accounts—operating on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram—have been used to solicit money, personal favours, and make false promises of contract awards, all in a bid to tarnish the image of the Office of the Permanent Secretary.

The Ministry clarified that Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed does not own or operate any personal social media account for official or professional purposes. It stressed that all authentic communication from his office is only issued through the Ministry’s verified website (www.foreignaffairs.gov.ng) and its official social media handles.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Permanent Secretary will never solicit funds, request personal favours, or make contract offers through unverified channels,” the statement emphasized.

The Ministry urged members of the public, including the diplomatic community, to disregard such fraudulent communications and immediately report suspicious accounts to the relevant social media platforms and the Cybercrime Unit of the Nigerian Police Force.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government disclosed that it is working with security and regulatory agencies to investigate the scam and ensure the perpetrators face justice.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on fraud, the Ministry assured Nigerians that the government remains committed to integrity, transparency, and safeguarding public trust.
