The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning Nigeria as a globally recognized and competitive mining hub, citing the country’s vast mineral resources and untapped investment potential.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 2025 Nigeria Mining Week in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Solid Minerals, Engr. Farouk Yabo, emphasized the rapid growth of the mining sector and the country’s readiness for global partnerships.
“Over the past ten years, Nigeria Mining Week has evolved from a modest gathering into a flagship platform that brings together government officials, investors, operators, and development partners,” Yabo said. “As we enter the next decade, our focus is clear—scale up the industry, ensure sustainability, drive value addition, and position Nigeria as a globally relevant mining hub.”
Yabo revealed that more than 44 different mineral types have been discovered across the country, placing Nigeria among the most promising mining destinations in Africa. He also underscored the need for responsible and profitable investment, stressing that the next decade will be pivotal for sector-wide growth and sustainability.
Also speaking at the event, National President of the Miners Association of Nigeria, Mr. Dele Ayanleke, acknowledged the significant progress made, but noted that challenges remain.
“While we celebrate a decade of progress, we must address persistent issues such as infrastructure deficits, limited access to finance, and regulatory hurdles,” Ayanleke said. “Small-scale miners, in particular, face these challenges daily. In addition, skills development and the adoption of modern technology are areas that demand ongoing focus.”
Ayanleke described the 10th Anniversary Edition of Nigeria Mining Week as a unique opportunity to deepen engagement across the industry. He noted that the event will feature strategic forums, technical workshops, and investment deal rooms designed to foster innovation, safety, sustainability, and international best practices.
“As we look ahead, this edition offers an enhanced platform for partnerships and practical solutions,” he said. “We aim to support artisanal and small-scale miners, promote compliance, and attract investors to the evolving mining ecosystem.”
