he Second Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament for 2025 has officially commenced in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The week-long event, running from September 22 to 28, is themed:
“Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Parliamentary Efficiency, Ethical Governance, and Inclusive Development.”

The session aims to explore how emerging technologies—particularly Artificial Intelligence—can transform legislative processes, promote transparency, and foster inclusive governance across West African states.Top Dignitaries in Attendance

As of 11:30 a.m. on Monday, notable dignitaries had arrived at the venue, including:

  • Rt. Hon. Hadja Mémounatou Ibrahima, Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament
  • Senator Barau Jibrin, Deputy Senate President of Nigeria and First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament
  • Senator Ali Ndume, Senate Leader
  • Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly
  • Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly
  • Traditional rulers, civil society leaders, and international observers

Goodwill Messages and Opening Ceremony
