The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that four people were killed during coordinated night attacks on Jol community and Dorowa Babuje in Ropp District, spanning Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

As residents begin preparations to bury the victims, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bassey Eteh, said security operatives swiftly responded to distress calls and worked with sister agencies to repel the attackers and restore calm.

Speaking off camera to journalists, Eteh said, “Upon receiving distress calls, our operatives moved immediately into the affected areas in collaboration with other security agencies. The attackers were repelled, and normalcy was restored.”

According to him, preliminary reports from divisional police officers indicated that four persons lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries during the attacks. “We have also maintained a strong security presence in the communities to protect lives and property and to ensure peace is fully restored,” the police chief added.

However, earlier accounts by community leaders had put the casualty figure higher, following what they described as a coordinated assault on multiple locations.

The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYMA), Barrister Solomon Dalyop, said the assailants struck the two communities from different routes.

“Those who attacked Jol community rode in on motorcycles from the Manga axis, while the group that attacked Dorowa Babuje came from the Jong-Wereh area, where they were believed to have been camping,” Dalyop alleged.

He commended the military for what he described as a swift response in Dorowa Babuje, saying the intervention prevented further loss of lives. Dalyop also acknowledged the role of Operation Rainbow in repelling the attack on Jol community.

Meanwhile, residents have evacuated the bodies of those killed and are making burial arrangements amid grief, tension, and heightened security across the affected areas.
