The National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, has reaffirmed the Association’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria, particularly on women-centered initiatives like the Women’s Voices and Leadership (WVL) Programme.

Hajia Ibrahim made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to ActionAid Nigeria’s headquarters in Abuja. She applauded the organization for its consistent support in promoting women’s voices, leadership, and rights across the country.

In her remarks, the NAWOJ Chairperson highlighted the tangible impact of ActionAid’s partnership, noting how it has empowered the association to enhance its operations and advocacy efforts.

“Through your generous contribution, we successfully established a functional national secretariat for NAWOJ. This milestone has streamlined our operations, strengthened internal communications, and improved our responsiveness to members’ needs and societal issues,” Ibrahim stated.

She further commended the collaborative effort that led to the development of comprehensive, gender-sensitive policies aimed at creating an inclusive and professional environment for women journalists in Nigeria.

Looking ahead, Hajia Ibrahim called for sustained collective efforts to expand opportunities in capacity building, mentorship, and advocacy for women’s rights.

“Together, we can embark on new initiatives focused on mentorship, leadership development, and human rights advocacy for women. Our goal is to reach and positively impact more women, especially at the grassroots level,” she added.

In response, the Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Andrew Mamedu — represented by Deputy Country Director Hajia Suwaibu Muhammad Dankabo — commended NAWOJ for its achievements during the first phase of the WVL project. He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting NAWOJ as it prepares for the next phase of the programme.

“You came at a strategic time as we are finalizing preparations for a new chapter of the WVL project. The contributions of women journalists in investigative reporting and advocacy are invaluable in addressing the nation’s pressing challenges,” Dankabo remarked.

She further advised NAWOJ’s leadership to consolidate on past successes and undertake a SWOT analysis to strengthen institutional structures and better navigate challenges in the upcoming phase.
