In a decisive move to curb rising incidents of bullying, the Nasarawa State Government has unveiled a robust legal and social framework aimed at protecting children and vulnerable groups across the state.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Mrs. Hauwa Jugbo, announced the initiative during a press briefing in Lafia as part of activities marking the 2025 Children’s Day celebration.

Speaking to journalists, Jugbo described the disturbing increase in bullying cases within schools and homes as “deeply concerning,” warning that such acts often inflict lasting physical, emotional, and psychological harm on victims.

“This initiative is part of the state government’s unwavering commitment to creating a safe, supportive environment where every child can thrive and achieve their full potential,” she stated.

According to the commissioner, the new framework includes strict prosecution of individuals found guilty of bullying, in line with the Nasarawa State Child Rights Law and international child protection standards such as United Nations resolutions.

Jugbo emphasized the need for collective responsibility in tackling the menace, calling on parents, teachers, caregivers, and guardians to shun any form of abuse or intimidation against children.

“Parents and caregivers must understand that bullying is not a trivial issue. It is a statutory offense punishable by law, and offenders will face serious consequences,” she warned.

The commissioner expressed concern over what she described as a growing culture of entitlement and lack of empathy among perpetrators, which she said contributes to the persistence of bullying within communities.

“Many cases sadly go unreported, which hinders the government’s ability to intervene promptly. This can lead to severe injuries, emotional trauma, or even fatalities,” Jugbo noted.

She called for increased public awareness, advocacy, and timely reporting of bullying incidents to the appropriate authorities, assuring that the state government would maintain a zero-tolerance stance on such abuses.

The Nasarawa State Government’s new anti-bullying framework is expected to reinforce child protection mechanisms and ensure justice for victims, as well as serve as a deterrent to would-be offenders As the state joins the nation in commemorating Children’s Day 2025, officials reaffirmed their dedication to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children and vulnerable persons across Nasarawa.
