First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced that more than ₦20 billion has been raised for the construction of a state-of-the-art National Library, through a public goodwill initiative tied to her 65th birthday celebration.
Speaking at an interactive session with State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Mrs. Tinubu revealed that the funds were generated via the “Oluremi Tinubu at 65 Fund”, which she launched as a legacy-driven alternative to conventional birthday gifts.
Mrs. Tinubu clarified that her motivation for spearheading the initiative stems from a “deep sense of duty and patriotism,” rather than any political ambition.
“This is not about politics; it is about what I can do for my country,” she stated.
She had earlier urged well-wishers to avoid placing birthday adverts or sending personal gifts, and instead channel their goodwill into donations to support the National Library project.
The First Lady described the public response as “overwhelming,” with individuals, private organisations, and communities nationwide contributing generously to the fund.
She envisioned the future library as “a beacon of knowledge and cultural preservation for future generations”, aligning with national goals for education, literacy, and youth development.
