President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Plateau State following the death of Lieutenant-General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 81.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President also extended sympathies to the family, friends, military colleagues, and political associates of the late general. Useni was celebrated as a statesman whose contributions spanned military service, governance, and politics.

Highlighting Useni’s illustrious career, President Tinubu noted his courage and commitment during his time in the Nigerian Army, where he served as Quarter-Master General and later as Governor of the old Bendel State. Tinubu praised Useni’s influence in inspiring young officers to prioritize the nation’s interests over personal ambitions.

In addition to his military accomplishments, Useni left his mark in politics, serving as the Deputy National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and as a Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District.

The President concluded his statement with prayers for the repose of the late general’s soul and divine comfort for his loved ones.
