Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, popularly known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo has cautioned members of the public against the activities of fraudsters, noting that such individuals operate not only in the wider society but also within religious spaces.
The cleric made the remarks during a recent mid-week church service while recounting an incident involving an alleged impersonator who falsely claimed to be him in an attempt to defraud unsuspecting victims.
According to Oyedepo, the fraudster used his name and identity to demand money from a victim, claiming to be acting on the bishop’s behalf. The scheme, he said, was uncovered when the victim sought to verify the claim.
“He insisted he was me and even requested to speak directly with me,” Oyedepo told the congregation. “That was how he was exposed.”
The bishop noted that his images and identity are frequently exploited by scammers, warning church members and the general public to remain vigilant and cautious when approached with suspicious requests.
Oyedepo stressed that fraudulent behaviour is not confined to any single environment, adding that such individuals can be found in churches, markets, schools, and other sectors of society.
He urged his congregation to walk in truth and exercise discernment at all times, emphasizing that spiritual alertness and personal responsibility are key to avoiding deception.
“Fraud is everywhere,” he said, calling on believers to remain committed to integrity and wisdom in their daily interactions.
