The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has dismissed reports claiming it is selling scrap materials, equipment, or components from its refineries, describing such information as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday, the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said NNPC Ltd. had not issued any request for bids, tenders, expressions of interest, or approvals for the sale of scrap materials or refinery components.

He stressed that the company had not authorised the disposal of any items from the warehouses or inventories of its refineries, urging the public to disregard the circulating claims.

Odeh also revealed that the company had received reports of individuals falsely presenting themselves as representatives or agents of NNPC Ltd., allegedly offering to facilitate the sale of “scrap metals” or refinery equipment. He clarified that such persons are not authorised and are attempting to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

He advised individuals, corporate organisations, and industry stakeholders to exercise caution and avoid engaging with anyone making such representations.

“For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC Limited is not conducting, nor has it authorised, any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities,” he said.

The spokesperson added that any legitimate disposal of assets by the company would follow established, transparent procedures and would be publicly communicated through official channels in line with regulatory requirements.

He further encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious claims or individuals to law enforcement authorities.

NNPC Ltd. reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of Nigeria’s energy assets.
