Aloy Ejimakor, legal consultant to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has said that no number of lawyers, “even a million,” could have changed the outcome of Kanu’s legal battle.
Ejimakor made the comment during an interview with Channels Television, where he explained that Kanu ultimately decided to take full control of his own defense after concluding that having his lawyer lead the process would not alter the direction of the case.
When asked whether he was suggesting that justice was not served in line with the law, Ejimakor clarified that this was not his position.
Instead, he stated that history provided examples where the judicial outcome appeared predetermined long before a verdict was delivered.
He cited the biblical trial of Jesus Christ, noting that those who brought Jesus before Pontius Pilate had already resolved His fate despite the governor’s willingness to release another prisoner.
Ejimakor also referenced Nelson Mandela’s conviction under apartheid despite the lack of direct evidence linking him to violent activities, as well as Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s controversial 1960s conviction for allegedly plotting to overthrow the Nigerian government, an accusation he described as illogical, since Awolowo was not a military officer.
Ejimakor stressed that he was not accusing the judge in Kanu’s case of bias or a prearranged verdict. Rather, he said the overall atmosphere surrounding the trial created a “palpable” sense that external factors beyond the courtroom may have influenced the trajectory of events.
