In a development raising fresh concerns over governance in Rivers State, the Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ette-Ibas, has again failed to honour an invitation by the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight.
The Committee, chaired by House Leader Professor Julius Ihonvbere, was constituted by the Speaker of the House, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, to oversee critical issues concerning the state’s administration. The Sole Administrator was initially scheduled to appear before the panel on April 17, 2025. However, the meeting was postponed at his request.
A new date was fixed for Thursday, April 24, 2025, but Vice Admiral Ette-Ibas was absent once more, this time without providing any reason for his non-appearance.
Despite his absence, members of the Ad-hoc Committee convened a closed-door session at the National Assembly complex in Abuja to deliberate on the situation. Addressing journalists afterward, Committee Chairman Professor Ihonvbere confirmed that the Committee remained committed to its mandate and would soon release an official statement concerning the administrator’s repeated failure to appear.
The House Committee’s engagement is part of ongoing legislative oversight into the governance and administrative activities in Rivers State, following heightened political tension in the region.
