Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has opened up about the beginnings of his relationship with his estranged wife, May Edochie, revealing that he was just 22 years old when they got married.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Edochie said their relationship began long before marriage and even predated his university education. According to him, the pair first met at an academic centre where students prepared for the General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations.
“We were already together before I got into the university,” he said, recalling the early stages of their romance.
The actor, who has recently gained attention for sharing relationship advice online, used the interview to stress the importance of establishing clear boundaries in romantic relationships.
“You must set boundaries. You must!” Edochie said emphatically, while addressing male listeners on the podcas
He advised men against tolerating what he described as inappropriate behaviour from their partners, arguing that mutual respect and clearly defined limits are essential for healthy relationships.
Edochie’s comments come years after the highly publicised collapse of his marriage to May. The relationship came under intense public scrutiny after the actor announced that he had welcomed a child with fellow actress Judy Austin and subsequently married her as a second wife.
The development sparked widespread reactions on social media, with May publicly rejecting the polygamous arrangement.
She later initiated divorce proceedings to formally end the marriage, bringing an end to a union that had lasted for more than a decade and produced several children.
Edochie has since remained vocal on issues relating to marriage, relationships and family life, frequently sharing his views with followers across social media platforms.
