Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have intercepted an unregistered vehicle loaded with crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice,” and other illicit drugs during a stop-and-search operation.
The operation, led by ASP Amos Ayuba at Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area, also uncovered that the vehicle bore a fake number plate reportedly stolen from another car.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, who confirmed the arrest, said the case highlights the critical role of routine checkpoints and stop-and-search operations in tackling crime.
“All suspects connected with the case are now in custody while investigations continue,” Lawal stated. He further ordered a statewide clampdown on unmarked vehicles, cars with covered number plates, unauthorised dealer plates, and motorcyclists who conceal their identity with masks or face coverings.
Earlier, the police chief met with commercial motorcyclists’ representatives across the state, sensitising them on the new measures. He warned against the use of motorcycles as a cover for crime, adding that strict enforcement would follow any breach. Lawal also shared his personal contact with their leadership to encourage discreet intelligence sharing.
He disclosed that intelligence reports revealed criminals have been infiltrating communities with unmarked vehicles and disguised motorcyclists to evade detection.
The commissioner reassured residents that the command would continue to operate with professionalism, discipline, and accountability in line with the policing vision of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
