Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized the federal government for what he termed as “misplaced priorities,” lamenting that authorities continue to celebrate revenue milestones while Nigerians lose their lives to unchecked violence and insecurity.

Atiku made the remarks in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle following the deadly attack on Wagga Mongono community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Tuesday. The attack, reportedly carried out by suspected insurgents, left at least four people dead, injured several others, and led to the destruction of homes, shops, and a church. Dozens of residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence.

“We cannot continue to lose our productive population to sundry criminalities and yet make bogus claims about reaching revenue targets, as though the lives of the workforce that produces the revenue don’t matter,” Atiku said.

The former Vice President described the attack as a “deeply personal loss”, citing his roots in Adamawa State. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and called on the federal government to urgently act with sincerity and resolve.

“Our people are certainly tired of government’s empty claims of improvements in security,” he said. “Nigerians would love to see this government exert real effort, not propaganda.”

Atiku’s comments add to a growing chorus of concern over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions. He noted that while government officials boast about economic indicators like revenue targets and GDP growth—including the recent report that Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.23% in Q2 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics—the lives of citizens remain under constant threat.

“The government must move beyond mere rhetoric and take decisive, sustained action to protect lives and property. Nigerians deserve more than promises; they deserve peace, security, and the freedom to live in any place of their choice without fear,” Atiku stressed.

He concluded his statement with prayers for the victims and a call for national unity in the face of persistent violence.

“May Almighty Allah grant eternal rest to the departed, healing to the injured, and comfort to all who mourn.”
