An unspecified number of brick workers have been buried following the collapse of a pit in Ridawa village, Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred this month while the victims were reportedly digging earth for brick-making when the pit suddenly caved in, trapping several of them underground.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that multiple workers were inside the excavation site at the time of the collapse, sparking fears that some may have died, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Local sources said rescue operations began immediately after the incident, with residents and emergency responders working frantically to reach those trapped beneath the rubble.
A member of the House of Representatives representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency, Sani Bala, confirmed the development, revealing that about 10 persons were believed to be trapped underground.
“About 10 people are feared trapped. We urgently need government intervention to rescue the victims and prevent further loss of lives,” Bala said.

He called on relevant authorities to intensify rescue efforts and ensure improved safety measures to avert similar tragedies in the future.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, stated that the agency had yet to receive an official report regarding the incident.
“We have not received any report on the incident. The Ghari office has not received a report. As soon as we get details, we shall let you know,” Abdullahi said.
As rescue efforts continue, anxiety remains high within the community over the fate of those still trapped beneath the collapsed pit.
