The Kwara State Health Insurance Agency (KW-HIA) has announced plans to begin the enrollment of individuals living with HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis into its health insurance scheme by June 12, 2025.

The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter, disclosed this in Ilorin during a stakeholders’ meeting focused on the implementation strategies for the new initiative aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for vulnerable groups in the state.

According to Dr. Jetawo-Winter, the health insurance scheme will cover all residents living with HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis across the 16 local government areas of Kwara State. Beneficiaries will have access to comprehensive healthcare services beyond their routine treatments, including care for malaria, infections, surgeries, and maternity services.

She emphasized that the health insurance coverage will be renewable annually, providing continued medical support for enrollees. Dr. Jetawo-Winter urged all eligible residents to visit the healthcare facilities where they currently receive their medications to complete their enrollment for the insurance scheme.

In his remarks, a member of the Kwara State House of Assembly Committee on Health and Environment, Hon. Seun Ogunniyi, commended the agency’s initiative, describing it as a significant step towards inclusivity and better healthcare delivery in the state. He also advised the agency to intensify public awareness campaigns to ensure smooth and widespread implementation of the scheme across all local government areas.

The Kwara State Health Insurance Agency continues to advance its mission of providing affordable and accessible healthcare services for all residents, particularly the most vulnerable populations.
