Dr. Omar Touray Engages Guinea-Bissau Leadership on Stability, Election Preparedness

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, paid a two-day working visit to Guinea-Bissau from May 25 to 26, 2025, at the invitation of the country’s President, Umaro Sissoco Embaló.

The visit formed part of ECOWAS’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with its Member States and was aimed at evaluating Guinea-Bissau’s political climate ahead of the general elections slated for November 23, 2025.

During the mission, Dr. Touray held high-level talks with President Embaló in Bissau. The discussions centered on strengthening democratic institutions, enhancing political stability, and ensuring the upcoming elections are inclusive, transparent, and credible.

Dr. Touray also briefed President Embaló on his recent consultations with the foreign ministers of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, reiterating ECOWAS’s commitment to peaceful dialogue and regional cooperation amid ongoing security and political challenges in West Africa.

The visit underscored ECOWAS’s role in promoting democratic governance, electoral integrity, and sustainable peace across the subregion.
