The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old woman, Rabi’a Labaran, in connection with the alleged murder of her co-wife, Zainab Lawal, 30, following a violent domestic dispute in Daura town.
The tragic incident occurred late on May 24, 2025, in the Sabon Gari area of Daura, behind Dadi Primary School. According to police reports, a heated quarrel between the co-wives escalated into a fatal scuffle that ended in the stabbing death of Lawal.
Katsina Police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the case was reported by the husband of both women, Nasir Yusuf, who returned from the market to find Zainab lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
“Upon receiving the distress report, officers from the Sabon Gari Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, rushed to the scene. The victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Daura, where she was confirmed dead by medical personnel,” Sadiq said.
Labaran was subsequently arrested and confessed during interrogation that a misunderstanding between her and the deceased triggered the altercation. She admitted to stabbing her co-wife in the heat of the fight.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, has condemned the incident and called on residents to reject domestic violence and seek lawful means of resolving disputes. He emphasized that taking the law into one’s own hands not only leads to tragedy but also undermines the justice system.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say Labaran will face charges once the inquiry is complete.
