Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that the wave of killings across Nigeria should not be attributed to religion, but to sheer acts of inhumanity by criminals targeting both Muslims and Christians.

Speaking as Guest Speaker at the 2025 Synod and 35th Anniversary Celebration of the Anglican Diocese of Kafanchan in Kaduna State, Fani-Kayode urged Nigerians to reject attempts by divisive leaders to use religion as a weapon.

He called on followers of all faiths to stand together in unity and compassion, emphasizing that “those who kill in the name of religion do not represent God.”

Representing the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, the State Chief Judge and Attorney-General, Mr. James Kanyip, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting religious freedom.

He said the state would continue to work closely with faith leaders to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect among citizens.

Mr. Kanyip also encouraged clerics to keep preaching peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation, noting that these values were essential to building a harmonious society.

In his remarks, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kafanchan, Rt. Rev. Markus Dogo, highlighted the Diocese’s contributions over its 35-year history, to include investments in humanitarian projects such as schools, hospitals, and skills acquisition centres to uplift the less privileged.

He appealed to Governor Uba Sani to sustain investments in education, healthcare, and social welfare.

Also speaking, Senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Marshall Katung—represented by the member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, Mr. Daniel Amos, praised Governor Sani for his inclusive governance.

He called on churches to keep supporting and praying for the success of their elected leaders in the pursuit of peace and development.
