The National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, has declared that Nigeria would have collapsed without the sustained prayers of Christians across the country.
Speaking in an interview to mark the PFN’s 40th anniversary, Bishop Oke described the prayers of believers as the nation’s spiritual lifeline amid growing insecurity, economic challenges, and moral decline.
“Nigeria would have collapsed but for the prayers of the people,” Oke stated. “One renowned man of God once said, ‘The only thing we need to do for the nation to collapse is to stop praying.’ The moment we stop praying, evil will take over.”
He emphasized that PFN members intercede daily for Nigeria’s peace and stability, noting that such prayers have continually prevented chaos and national disintegration.
According to the cleric, the Pentecostal movement has played a vital role in promoting unity, evangelism, education, and moral renewal across the country.
He highlighted the establishment of private universities, schools, hospitals, and various community development projects as part of the Church’s contribution to national growth.
Bishop Oke also cautioned Nigerians against focusing solely on negative news about the country. “If our nation were as bad as we think it is, none of us would still be here,” he remarked, urging citizens to appreciate the nation’s progress while working for its betterment.
He reaffirmed PFN’s commitment to continuous prayer and value-based leadership rooted in righteousness and nation-building.
“Until we get to the point where we can say it is Uhuru (freedom), we will not stop praying for this nation,” he concluded.
