Security alert: White House on lockdown after attack leaves guardsmen injured

The White House went into lockdown on Wednesday after a shooting injured two U.S. National Guard members near downtown Washington, close to the Farragut West Metro Station.

According to police, one suspect has been taken into custody. Emergency crews, including medics and law enforcement, responded immediately and secured the area.

One guardsman is reported to be in critical condition, while the other suffered serious but stable injuries.

Federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, are working alongside local authorities as the investigation continues. White House officials confirmed that President Donald Trump was briefed on the situation shortly after it unfolded.

The lockdown impacted the White House complex and nearby streets as security teams worked to ensure the safety of staff and the public while continuing their assessment of the incident.
