Late Nollywood actor John Okafor’s widow, Stella Okafor, has defended the sale of some of her husband’s properties in Enugu State, saying the decision was made collectively by family members to fund his burial.
Speaking in an interview with content creator King Mitchy, Stella dismissed allegations that she unilaterally disposed of the late actor’s assets. She explained that the sale was agreed upon by herself and two of Mr Ibu’s sons, Valentine and Daniel Okafor, following the actor’s death.
According to her, the family sold a parcel of land belonging to the late comedian in Enugu for N17 million to cover burial and related expenses. Stella maintained that the transaction was transparent and carried out with the consent of those directly involved.
Her remarks come amid an ongoing family dispute over the management of Mr Ibu’s estate. Some members of the actor’s family had previously raised concerns over the sale of properties and the handling of assets left behind by the Nollywood icon.
Responding to the criticism, Stella insisted that every step taken was aimed at ensuring a dignified burial for the late actor and addressing pressing financial obligations after his passing.
The controversy has continued to generate public interest, highlighting the challenges that often emerge over inheritance and estate management following the death of prominent public figures.
Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated comic actors, died in 2024 after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy that shaped the country’s entertainment industry for decades.
