President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has resigned from office.
Gusau announced his resignation on Thursday at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, bringing his tenure to an end amid growing concerns over the state of Nigerian football.
He confirmed his decision during a press conference with journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.
His resignation followed several days of reports that Gusau and some members of the NFF Executive Committee had stepped down. The reports, however, initially lacked official confirmation.
Gusau’s departure comes amid increasing criticism from football stakeholders and Nigerians over the performance and administration of the country’s football.
The NFF leadership had come under heightened scrutiny following a series of disappointing results by Nigeria’s national teams, particularly the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The development is expected to trigger further changes within the leadership of the football federation and has raised fresh questions about the direction of Nigerian football.
Gusau’s resignation also comes at a critical time for the NFF, which is expected to begin the process of electing a new executive leadership.
