Zamfara Mining Pit Collapse: 13 Dead, Dozens Trapped in Kadauri

The Kadauri site is one of several artisanal mining hubs in Zamfara State, where locals depend on mining for survival despite repeated warnings over unsafe practices. Mining pit collapses have become increasingly frequent in the region, raising concerns over weak safety regulations and poor monitoring.

Tragedy struck  as a mining pit collapsed at the Kadauri mining site in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving scores feared dead and many others trapped underground.

Local sources confirmed that at least 13 bodies have so far been recovered from the rubble, while rescue efforts continue to search for more victims. Many artisanal miners were said to be working underground at the time of the collapse.

Speaking to journalists, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Solid Minerals Development Agency, Nasiru Bamanga, confirmed the incident but noted that full details were still being compiled.

“I heard about the incident, and I’m yet to get full details. I will be going there later today and, Insha Allah, I will give you full information when I return,” Bamanga said.
