The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nigeria has celebrated the country’s rich culinary and cultural heritage through a colourful festival tagged ‘Taste of Russia: Traditional Dishes’.

Held  in Abuja, the festival featured a blend of gastronomy, music, and traditional art, attracting members of the diplomatic community, Nigerians, and lovers of Russian culture.

The event’s highlights included masterclasses on preparing traditional Russian pancakes (blini) and pelmeni (dumplings), alongside performances by children’s choirs, live music, and folk games that showcased Russia’s diverse cultural traditions.

Speaking during the celebration, the Ambassador of the Russia to Nigeria, Andrey Podyolyshev, described the festival as a bridge of friendship and mutual understanding between Russia and Nigeria.

“Food has always been a universal language that brings people together. Through ‘Taste of Russia,’ we want Nigerians to experience a part of our culture — the warmth, creativity, and history that our cuisine represents,”  Andrey Podyolyshev said.

Guests at the event expressed delight at the opportunity to experience Russian culture firsthand. Some described the festival as both entertaining and educational, highlighting its role in strengthening people-to-people diplomacy between the two nations.

“It was an exciting blend of food, music, and laughter. It reminds us that culture connects us more deeply than politics or distance ever could,” said one Nigerian attendee.

The ‘Taste of Russia’ festival is part of ongoing efforts by the Russian Embassy to promote cultural exchange and deepen bilateral relations with Nigeria through art, education, and community engagement.
